As you have watched in the video for this module, Adam has discussed some of his artistic influences for Character Design. You can click the tabs below to view some of their works. For this discussion find an artistic influence of your own whose work inspires you and is appropriate for this assignment (character design / lineups /turnarounds)

  • Post image samples of their work.
  • Do some research into their process and then post your findings in the discussion.
  • List if they have written any books or if anyone has written a biography on them.
  • Search the internet and see if they have created any videos online and share the link to those videos in the discussions.
  • Write a paragraph on how you plan to incorporate their artistic process into your digital painting assignment. 
  • Review the research of your peers and comment on at least two of your fellow student's findings as per the discussion rules for module 1.

Ben Balistreri

Ben Balistreri is an Emmy and Annie Award winning character designer, storyboard artist, director, executive producer, and illustrator best know for his work on Seaweed and How to Train your Dragon

Brittney Lee

Brittney Lee is an American visual development artist at Walt Disney Animation Studios. For the production of Frozen, Brittney designed all of Anna's dresses and hairstyles. She did background rosemaling, and she designed Elsa's braid, shoes, and helped with the design for Elsa's dress. Brittney is well known for her dimensional paper sculpture illustrations. She has also illustrated the Disney books: Frozen: A Sister More Like Me, Wreck-It Ralph: One Sweet Race, Tangled: A Dazzling Day, and The Little Mermaid: Part of Their World. Mary Blair

Mary Blair (born Mary Browne Robinson; October 21, 1911 – July 26, 1978) was an American artist, animator, and designer. She was prominent in producing art and animation for The Walt Disney Company, drawing concept art for such films as Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Song of the South and Cinderella. Blair also created character designs for enduring attractions such as Disneyland's It's a Small World, the fiesta scene in El Rio del Tiempo in the Mexico pavilion in Epcot's World Showcase, and an enormous mosaic inside Disney's Contemporary Resort. Several of her illustrated children's books from the 1950s remain in print, such as I Can Fly by Ruth Krauss. Blair was inducted into the group of Disney Legends in 1991.
